there's a reason why i like the TV3 Nightline - it is the most honest editing and reporting from TV3. a few nights ago, after the hoo-haas of our government's plan to increase the price of Ron95 that was very loudly opposed by rakyats- right after we've tasted the bitter increase of Ron97, Dato Seri Najib finally announced that Ron95 will remain as it is, however that means our government will continue to absorb about rm10 billion, since it's coming out of the subsidy's pocket.
but alas.. gali sini lubang, tanam situ lubang.. since the NY investors have not yet come in since his last visit, we have to find another way to cover for that cost. so came CEO of TNB on 'Soal Jawab' just now explaining that world's per barrel is currently at about RM40, but our government will remain to sell it at about RM10 per barrel, however electricity charges will have to be increased for that reason. TNB also said that world price have been raising every single year but they have not raised the tariff since 2008. by 2015, more stesen janakuasa have to be built in order to support the increase of rakyat's electricity usage and our current ones still have to go through regular maintenance if rakyats do not want to be burdened by blackouts. the nuclear plant is at a pit-stop at the moment and bakun also belum siap lagi. so from a layman's point of view; ie. me, this increase is for the benefit of 10 years down the road.
well, i'm no economist but given these reasons, it does seem fair. its my two cents, you are entitled to yours. =)
